Dr. Edgar Virgüez is an energy systems engineer promoting the transition toward decarbonized electric power systems. He is a postdoctoral researcher and deputy group leader in Carnegie’s Department of Global Ecology at Stanford University. With more than 15 years of experience, he has participated in 18 research/consultancy projects ($2.73 million budget), promoting an orderly energy transition.

Concurrently with his research interests, he is passionate about higher education. Edgar has developed as a next-generation pedagogue teaching 16 courses, serving more than 560 students, and achieving high ratings. He has held several leadership positions, including being appointed to Duke University’s Board, and has been awarded scholarships and fellowships for more than $716,000. For his contributions, he has been recognized with 19 professional awards with associated prizes of ~$27,000.

Edgar holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Policy, an M.A. in Environment, an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering, and B.Sc.’s in Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
