EESG Paper Competitions: The Luten and Cook Awards

The Energy and Environment Specialty Group sponsors two paper awards in conjunction with the Annual Meetings of the AAG. The Luten Award is for the best paper by a professional geographer, and is named in honor of Daniel B. Luten. The Cook Award is for the best paper by a student, and honors Earl Cook. Both Dr. Luten and Dr. Cook were highly respected observers, writers, and teachers on energy, environment, and natural resources, Dr. Luten at the University of California, Berkeley, and Dr. Cook at Texas A&M University. Each award includes a $250 prize, an engraved plaque, and formal announcement at the AAG meeting.

To submit your paper, the four requirements are:

1. The topic must be on energy, environment, or a mix of the two;

2. Papers must be delivered verbally at the Annual Meeting of the AAG;

3. A letter of intent (including title, abstract, and specifying Luten or Cook Award) must be submitted by February 4, 2008;

4. The completed paper (in MSWord or PDF format) must be submitted electronically by February 15, 2008.

Papers will be judged by a panel of experts within the Energy and Environmental Specialty Group of the AAG.
